[:en]Cuenca is one of the most beautiful colonial cities in Ecuador and also a UNESCO’s World Heritage Site. It is a city of facades dated from the last five centuries which have been kept intact due to the unique privilege of being the only city on the Ecuadorian Andes which has not been hit by major quakes. We will visit the Cathedral, the Main Square, the flower market, San Francisco and Santo Domingo churches and the Central Bank Museum with permanent archaeological, anthropological, colonial and republican art collections, including photographies documenting the city’s history. We will be in the Turi viewpoint for a panoramic view of the city.

The village of Sigsig is known for its artisans who weave the famous Panama hats. The hats are of Ecuadorian origin, however, they were known to be used in the 1960’s by famous politicians and celebrities visiting the Panama Canal where they got their international name. In the factory, we will admire the art of weaving recognized by the UNESCO in the Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists.

Gualaceo is a very typical Andean village with cobblestone streets, a central plaza and interesting main church to learn more about the different cultures that have gone through this area through the years. Artisan of the village, are known for their work in leather artifacts and clothing which makes a good opportunity a quick shopping time.

We head to Chordeleg, another artisan village which designs and makes silver and gold jewelry by hand, in a tradition that goes back 5000 years. The city holds about 100 jewelry shops where different finishes, details, and shapes can be found.

In our way back to Cuenca, we make a quick stop in an orchid exportation farm for a quick visit to learn more about the orchid exportation business.

Los sombreros son de origen ecuatoriano, sin embargo, se sabe que fueron utilizados en la década de 1960 por famosos políticos y celebridades que visitaron el Canal de Panamá, donde obtuvieron su nombre internacional. Nos dirigimos a Chordeleg, otro pueblo artesanal que diseña y fabrica joyas de plata y oro a mano, en una tradición que se remonta 5000 años atrás. La ciudad alberga alrededor de 100 joyerías donde se pueden encontrar diferentes acabados, detalles y formas.

En nuestro camino de regreso a Cuenca, hacemos una parada rápida en una granja de exportación de orquídeas para una visita rápida para aprender más sobre el negocio de exportación de orquídeas.
